Health & Income Protection
Waiver of premium
An option that may keep a policy in force while you are unable to work.
Where included, the insurer pays the premiums after a waiting period if illness or injury stops you working, so protection does not lapse at exactly the moment it is most needed.
It is often overlooked because it adds a small cost to a policy that already feels expensive — but the cover it protects is the point of the arrangement.
Things worth considering
- A deferred period applies before the waiver starts
- Definitions of incapacity vary between insurers
- Usually must be selected at application rather than added later
