Life Insurance
Terminal illness cover
A benefit included in many life policies that may allow an earlier claim.
Where included, terminal illness benefit may allow the sum assured to be paid if a medical professional confirms that life expectancy is less than twelve months, rather than waiting until death.
It is not the same as critical illness cover: it responds to a terminal prognosis, not to the diagnosis of a serious condition from which recovery is expected.
Things worth considering
- Inclusion, definitions and exclusions vary between policies
- Claims paid early usually end the policy
- Often unavailable in the final months of a policy term
