Life Insurance

Whole-of-life insurance

Cover intended to remain in place for life, rather than for a fixed term.

Because a claim is expected at some point, whole-of-life cover generally costs more than term cover. It is often considered where a liability does not disappear with age — a potential Inheritance Tax bill, for example, or provision for a dependent relative.

Some plans are reviewable, meaning premiums or cover can change at set review dates depending on how the plan has performed.

Things worth considering

  • Reviewable plans can become significantly more expensive later
  • Often considered alongside trust arrangements for estate planning
  • Guaranteed and reviewable structures behave very differently over time
